PESTICIDES

With over 31,000 tonnes of toxic agricultural pesticides used in the UK alone for commercial food production - fresh fruit & vegetables aren’t always as healthy as we’d like to think. Pesticide residues in food are a major problem that has our health experts seriously worried. Research has shown clear links between pesticide residues and a wide range of serious conditions such as infertility, cancer and Parkinson’s disease. Infants and children are thought to be most at risk.

The majority of commercially grown fruit and vegetables retain residues of pesticides which enter our systems when we eat them. With increasing demand for seasonal produce all year round, the UK imports a high percentage. Countries outside the EU have different legislation governing the use of pesticides and although the UK Government sets safe limits for imported goods, it is impossible to monitor every consignment that arrives.

Despite what advice may say, a quick rinse under the cold tap will do little or nothing to remove any of this toxic cocktail. Even cooking doesn’t always help.
